Like its older brother (it’s definitely male)! Rich
sherry aromas whose complexity gives only hints of creamy fudge toffees give way
to Glenglassaugh’s boiled fruit sweet medley, too complex to break
down.
Hints of menthol and peppermint gradually creep
in.
On the palate the rich sherry dominates but the
boiled fruits flavours appear in the mid- palate.
A medium, long finish follows where the rich sherry
flavours are complemented with the menthol-like cooling. |

Having spent much time in Cuba over the past several
years I have developed an appreciation of some of their fabulous beers.
I'm pleased to say we have nearly secured a deal which will soon see us selling

Whisky Display in Edinburgh
A
collection of 3384 whiskies built up over 35 years has been put on display in
Edinburgh.
The collection owned by Diageo is being shown as part of the newly
revamped Scotch Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile in the city. What a sight it
is to behold, we recommend visiting it to see for yourself
Whisky Exports Record high
The value
of Scotch whisky exports reached a record high of £3.06 billion in 2008, marking
the first time exports have exceeded the £3 billion mark.
Spirit of Speyside
Awards.
Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and Linkwood Distilleries all were winners
at the recent Spirit of Speyside Whisky Awards.
Glenfiddich 12 y/o took the 12 years and under
category,
Glenlivet Nadurra 16 y/o won the 13-20 year old
section Linkwood 26 y/o Portwood won the 21+ years category.

Whisky Month Celebrations coming

Scotland's Whisky industry is set to take centre
stage in May when a month long celebration gets underway. This forms part of
Homecoming 2009 , the campaign designed to encourage Scots to come back to
Scotland to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, our
National Poet.
Join in with the celebrations at the Robert Graham
stores in Glasgow and Edinburgh and also the Gordon Inn Yarrow on May
15th
Throughout the day we will be hosting in
store tastings of some of Scotland’s finest single malt whiskies as well as our
exclusive Robert Graham Homecoming Single Islay Malt Whisky specially selected
to mark the historic occasion that is the “Year of the Homecoming”. Customers
are welcome to visit our outlets to try these whiskies free of charge during the
hours of 1030-1730hrs. With the first 200 bottles of Robert Graham’s Homecoming
whisky sold we will include a free limited edition print showcasing the artwork
depicted on the bottle label which will be signed by the artist as well as offer
2 nights accommodation for the price of 1 at the Gordon Inn Yarrow (to be
redeemed before the end of May 2009 and subject to availability).
The Gordon Inn Yarrow was regularly visited by James
Hogg and Sir Walter Scott, two of Scotland’s literary greats and is in a very
picturesque setting amongst some of Scotland’s most breathtaking scenery. It
would be a very memorable stay and we are delighted to be able to offer the
extra night’s stay so that it can be fully appreciated. More details of the

Limited Edition Bowmore Cigar

We've just taken delivery of some new Bowmore 9 year
old CIGAR MALT from Douglas Laing and its wonderful stuff.
You'd better hope I don't drink it all myself.
Details of this bottle are below:
 Nose: Dark, round, sweet and peaty
Palate: Full, phenolic
and smoked
Finish: runs from sweet peat to dry smoke
Fully matured in one refill hogshead from which
only 354 bottles were filled!
This whisky is a perfect accompaniment to a

Happy New Year
What a rollercoaster 2008 was. Two duty increases,
one VAT reduction, the pound slipping to incredible lows and all the while we've
been here offering the finest products at the lowest possible prices (and with
the pound dropping so much our overseas customers are REALLY benefitting).
Our thanks to all of you who helped make 2008 such a
profitable year. Willie and I both look forward to being of service to you again
in 2009

Merry Christmas to one and all. I am unfortunately
laid up at home feeling sorry for myself as I battle flu but I've been touched
by how many of you have taken the time to write TODAY to tell me how much our

Oran Mor Whisky Awards
My thanks to Martin Grant at Moet Hennessy who
invited Mrs Gilchrist and me to the Oran Mor whisky awards dinner on the
21st. Oran Mor is where the recent Whisky Live Awards dinners have been
held and I suspect the owners got a taste for it as they decided to host their
own whisky awards event.
Joining us at our table were Martin and his wife
Susan, Mark Connelly (webmaster of www.whiskywhiskywhisky.com) and
his partner Mei Ching and Eric from the Abode Hotel on Bath Street with his
partner Laura
The winner on the night was Laphroaig 10 years old
Cask Strength. An interesting winner in a "blind" whisky tasting as you could
probably identify it from the next room but a worthy winner
nonetheless
Whisky Live Glasgow 2008
Whisky Live Glasgow made a welcome return to
Glasgow at the start of November. As last year the chosen venue was the SECC and
the event ran in conjunction with the BBC Good Food Show. Notable
distilleries in attendance were Ardbeg (showcasing the new Blasda which is a
ligtly peated expression), Dalmore (who sadly dropped the wonderful Cigar Malt
but have brought out a Gran Reserva which is a good substitute) and
Auchentoshan. Of course Auchentoshan HAD to be in attendance as they are
Glasgow's sole male whisky distiller but it was a good opportunity to check out
their new packaging which is starting to filter through as well as an
opportunity to sample the new 12 year old
