The Caley
Bar
Edinburgh has many
sights and attractions that are great fun for both local people and tourists
from the far-flung corners of the globe alike. The romanticism of the ancient
castle that takes centrepiece aloft Princes Street gardens, the narrow cobbled
streets of the Royal Mile, the modern wonder of the new Scottish Parliament, and
the numerous galleries and eateries are some examples of the diversity on offer,
enough to satisfy even the most well travelled among us. This is a proud Capital
city that celebrates all our fine land has to offer but when it comes to our
national drink, whisky, attractions that offer a little more than the touristy
perspective have been thin on the ground, until now.
The Caledonian
Hilton at the West End of the famous Princes Street has recently undergone a
major redevelopment. The new and improved Caley Bar has been completely
redecorated with the main bar now swathed in dark, luscious burgundies, much of
the original stonework cleaned and re-dressed and the bar fittings updated to
complete the transformation into quiet, stylish retreat. To add a little more
sparkle and cement itself as a premier destination on the Edinburgh scene the
management have stocked up on the finest whiskies available today. The choice is
immense, with over 100 single malts, Bourbons, Deluxe Blends, Japanese whiskies,
single malt cocktails and everything else you would expect of a cutting edge bar
such as this.
But fear not, despite the depth of choice you will not feel
overwhelmed. The well trained bar team will be on hand to guide you through our
finest drams or you can opt for one of the small tasting sample packages on
offer. These superbly designed selectors offer the chance to taste either the
best of each of the different whisky producing regions or a broader overview
where you can compare the differing regional styles. This gives you the chance
to try a small amount of many old and rare bottlings and some from differing
types of casks. The innovative smorgasbord style approach will not only show you
what influences the flavour of whisky, but also about which style best suits
your palate.
Edinburgh finally has a venue of stature and standing to
match this most noble of spirits and with a range of products and service to
match, so why not take a wander past the usual tacky, tartan tourist haunts and
find out what whisky is really all about.
