The distillery was opened in 1899 near the Speyside town of Forres. The stillhouse burnt down in 1939, re-opened in 1947 and eventually closed in 1992. The distillery buildings are now owned by the Historic Buildings and Monuments department of the Scottish Office. They are now used as a model example of how a distillery was run at the turn of the last century
